Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez expressed his displeasure over the lack of sanction against Liam Lawson after the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix. Pérez pointed out that the VCARB driver has had similar actions in previous races. The Guadalajara native mentioned that in Formula 1, penalties often depend on who the involved driver is.
"I had a lot of damage, like two seconds of damage," Pérez explained. The Mexican lamented the lost points that affected Red Bull in the constructors' championship. He emphasized the importance of both team cars having the same upgrades to compete with Ferrari and McLaren.
Pérez, visibly saddened, acknowledged that he longed to win at the Mexican Grand Prix but was unable to achieve it. Despite a good start, a five-second penalty and an incident with Lawson prevented him from getting a satisfactory result.
"I leave very sad, without a doubt, because I wanted it so much... The only thing I want, I've been on the podium twice already, but I want to win this race and it wasn't this weekend, but we'll try again next year," Checo said after finishing the race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Regarding the incident with Lawson, Pérez described that the driver completely cut the corner and caused damage to his car. He stressed the need for Red Bull to equip both cars with the same upgrades and face the upcoming races of the season with determination.
